10-year-old boy shot by older brother in Wynne
Little Rock, Arkansas – According to the Wynne Police Department, a 10-year-old child is recovering after being shot in the chest by his older brother on Thursday afternoon.
The incident occurred inside a home on Fitzhugh Circle at around 5 p.m. Thursday, police said.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers found the young boy “bleeding profusely from a gunshot wound.”
According to a news release, one of the responding officers placed a chest seal on the child until an ambulance arrived to take him to Crossridge Community Hospital before being airlifted to a Memphis hospital.
Wynne Police Chief Richard Dennis said the shooting appeared to be a “heartbreaking accident.”
Officers determined the boy’s 13-year-old brother was “playing with an unsecured firearm located in the house when he unintentionally shot the 10-year-old,” according to the news release.
The Wynne Police Department encouraged everyone to respect the family’s privacy and to “pray for healing for the victim, the family, and the community in this time of need.”
