Altercation between a group of juveniles escalated to gunfire in Georgia, leaving a 12-year-old boy dead and five other persons injured, including one in critical condition
Atlanta, Georgia – A shooting incident over the weekend on the 17th Street Bridge close to Atlantic Station in Atlanta resulted in the death of a 12-year-old boy and the injuries of five other people.
According to the police, an altercation preceded the shooting incident on Saturday. Authorities also said that a group of youngsters were reportedly removed from the property of Atlantic Station by off-duty Atlanta police officers and staff members from Atlantic Station before the shooting took place.
After that, the group went off to 17th Street near the overpass for I-75, which is where the altercation is said to have taken place at 8 o’clock in the evening. The conflict allegedly led to the use of firearms on the 17th Street bridge, which resulted in the shooting death of one person and injuries to five others.
The Medical Examiner of Fulton County had identified the shooting victim as Zyion Charles, 12.
The mayor of Atlanta held a press conference on Sunday regarding the incident and said that one of the injured individuals is in critical condition.
All of the victims attended schools located all around the metro Atlanta area. Information about whether there were any arrests made was not disclosed. An investigation is ongoing.
