Pine Bluff, Arkansas – With police now looking into a probable suicide as a homicide, a victory for the City of Pine Bluff could turn into a defeat.

The city commemorated Monday marking a year without a youth homicide.

Gloves Not Guns organizer Albert Brewer expressed his displeasure at the sudden change in circumstances, stating that Pine Bluff police were now investigating the case as a homicide following the discovery of an 18-year-old deceased.

Brewer stated, “Our youth are just, for some reason, steadily turning to violence in any conflict that they have.”

On January 21, 18-year-old Patrick Coleman Jr. was discovered sleeping in the 6400 block of W. Jones.

For Brewer, who has been fighting against crime among the community’s youth, this is a depressing reality.

“We must provide our youth with opportunities because they are our future,” Brewer stated.
Brewer stated that even though Coleman is 18 years old, he is still far too young, and the new murder has inspired him to put on additional gloves.

Brewer stated, “They will simply keep going in the wrong direction if we don’t give them the chance.”

Gloves Not Guns member 9-year-old Rodney White hopes he can contribute to change in his community.

White remarked, “I always want to experience life; I want to go through life and see what it’s like as an adult.”

He plays baseball, football, basketball, and boxing, which is his genuine passion, as a means of staying active.

I’m hoping that his discipline will help him grow up and inspire others. “Remaining off the streets is the final message I will convey,” White stated.
