An Arkansas sake company has developed the nation’s first non-alcoholic sake
Hot Springs, Arkansas – ZERO, an innovative sake from Arkansas, is poised to create a significant impact nationwide, as it will be the first non-alcoholic sake available in the United States.
ZERO was established by Origami Sake, a company founded in Arkansas by locals Matt Bell and Ben Bell, as they strive to fulfill their vision of transforming Arkansas into the “Napa Valley of Sake”.
Origami Sake combines traditional brewing methods with local craftsmanship in its mission to rejuvenate sake in the United States.
This brewery stands out as the sole sake producer in Arkansas and holds the title of the largest domestically-owned brewery in the United States.
The newly launched ZERO sake is made without the yeast that produces alcohol, reflecting the company’s aim to adapt to evolving consumer tastes in beverages.
“With ZERO, we are introducing a product that makes the artistry of sake accessible to all,” stated Ben Bell, co-founder of Origami Sake and recognized as one of Wine Enthusiast Magazine’s top 40 tastemakers in America for 2023. “This goes beyond just being a non-alcoholic choice—it’s a completely fresh approach to enjoying sake, all while honoring the best ingredients that Arkansas has to offer.”
Origami Sake proudly creates its products with 100% locally sourced ingredients, including rice grown in Arkansas and water drawn from the Ouachita Mountains aquifer in Hot Springs.
“Sake boasts a rich 1,500-year history in Japan, with its techniques honed over centuries,” stated Matt Bell, co-founder of Origami Sake. “Adapting equipment from the wine and beer industries was essential for bringing this craft to the U.S. We take pride in merging this tradition with Arkansas’ outstanding resources to produce something remarkable.”
ZERO presents a flavor profile featuring a luscious apple and rich chestnut essence, harmonized with an acidity akin to that found in various alcoholic drinks.
This drink is perfect for those seeking a sophisticated non-alcoholic option for celebrations, pairings, or everyday enjoyment.
ZERO can now be found in 750 ml bottles priced at $24.99 at select retailers such as H-E-B, Total Wine, and Spec’s.
