Arkansas lineman calls Hurricane Helene “a beast”

Little Rock, Arkansas – Linemen are moving into the storm while the majority of people are adhering to the required evacuation for Hurricane Helene.

In Georgia and Florida, more than 100,000 people have already lost power. On Wednesday, crews from Arkansas landed in both states. They stocked up on food in case there were no stores open for days.

Since 1997, General Foreman Mike Matty has been venturing into the most difficult situations in order to expedite the arrival of help for individuals.

At midnight, he and fifty-three other Electric Cooperatives of Arkansas line workers headed to Keystone, Florida, which Matty believed was just east of the storm’s center.

It’s referred to as a beast. Perhaps in the top ten hurricanes for Florida, they say,” Matty remarked. Many of the guys are on the fifth level of this motel and are saying things like, “I think I’m going to stay on the bottom floor for that,” so you have to prepare for that psychologically.

They will be quite busy after the storm has passed. How long they are unaware of. Although that is based on past experience before the storm delivers damage, Matty instructed his crew to get ready for a month.

Georgian linemen will also see Helene. Entergy Arkansas’s senior manager of operations and construction, Chris Taylor, stated that while they sent a crew of roughly 200 people there, they also kept a reserve for the Natural State.

“We are aware that there are storms today that may affect Arkansas, and we are ready for those as well as continuously monitoring those,” Taylor stated.

The linemen are more concerned with the individuals who would be helpless without them than they are with their own time.

“They’re just amazed when they get power, even after two days,” Matty said. “Then you get the people who have had power for 20, 30 days, and they’re ecstatic.” “I find enjoyment in that.”
