Budgetary planning and teacher compensation
Little Rock, Arkansas – While the 94th Arkansas General Assembly’s third week was less active than the previous two, there were still some discussions and acts.
Sen. Jonathan Dismang, chairman of the Joint Budget Committee, first joined Capitol View presenter Roby Brock to talk about how challenging it could be to balance the budget this session with items like education and tax cuts on the agenda.
The Education Committee’s Vivian Flowers was the next person Brock met. She spoke about the Democrats’ Thursday announcement of their plan to fund education.
Legislation like House Bill 1268, which aims to increase the starting compensation for teachers to $50,000 and provide an immediate $10,000 boost for full-time Arkansas teachers, is included in the proposal.
