Contestants in Hot Springs Mullet Run come from eight states, including Sweden
Little Rock, Arkansas – The Third Annual Northwoods Mullet Trail Run & Beaver Bash took place in Hot Springs on Saturday morning.
A total of 239 competitors—wearing actual and fake mullets—from eight states—including Sweden—participated in the run.
A total of 70 individuals participated in the 25k event at Mullet Run, compared to 169 in the 10k race. Ten dog-and-runner pairs participated in the event this year, thus not every runner was competing on two legs.
The Northwoods Mullet Run is the sixth-best trail run in Arkansas according to readers of Arkansas Outside.
The Beaver Bash, a celebration with live music, food, and drink, quickly followed the race. Additionally, prizes for Best Fullet (fake mullet) and Best Mullet were awarded.
“I think, even after opening our Northwoods Trails almost six years ago, people are still learning that they are open to hiking and running, not just mountain biking. It’s exciting to see a trail-running event have this much success,” Northwoods Trail Coordinator Traci Berry said. “We wouldn’t enjoy this success without the work of the Mullet Race Board, who created the courses and stage the event every year, Becka Gartner, Kim McAllister, and Susan and Steve Adkison, all from the Spa Pacers Running Club. Our volunteers and sponsors have been key too, and reflect our amazing community and awesome supporters.”
Grow out your hair now, since Saturday, May 10, 2025 is the date of the next Mullet Run. The competition will be a part of the AURA Ultra Trail Lite Series in 2024–2025.
“We strive to include fun, well-established events that serve both the purpose of trail running in our state’s natural areas and to raise funds for those areas,” says Stacey Shaver, AURA President, “we love to see the addition of such trail events, and I know our runners will enjoy the Mullet run for years to come. We look forward to working with them in the future.”
