Darrell Walker, the men’s basketball coach at UA Little Rock, has extended his contract
Little Rock, Arkansas – The UA Little Rock Trojans men’s basketball team not only won their season opener this week, but they also announced a three-year contract extension with head coach Darrell Walker on Friday.
Frank Cuervo, the director of athletics for the Trojans, made the announcement on Friday and stated that the Board of Trustees must approve the extension.
“The upcoming season and Trojan Basketball’s future under Darrell Walker’s direction excite me,” Cuervo stated. “I’m excited to collaborate closely with Coach Walker to achieve the kind of success that we all desire, both on and off the court.”
Walker was selected as the 2024 Ohio Valley Conference Coach of the Year, and his Trojans shared the 2023–24 OVC regular season title with Tennessee-Martin and Morehead State. Additionally, the team made it to the OVC Tournament finals.
“We’re still creating something unique here,” Walker stated. I consider Arkansas to be my home, and I’m glad to be here and hope to stay as we continue to build a successful program. I am grateful to Frank Cuervo, the director of athletics, and Little Rock Chancellor Christina Drale for their assistance.
Walker, a Razorback graduate and 10-year NBA veteran, was selected 12th overall by the New York Knicks in the 1983 NBA Draft and is starting his seventh season with the Trojans. In 1993, while playing for the Chicago Bulls, he would join Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen to win a championship.
Additionally, he is the only current coach to have held head coaching positions in the NCAA Division I and Division II, the NBA, and the WNBA.
