Little Rock, Arkansas – On Tuesday evening, a number of people expressed their worries regarding the board members of the Pulaski County Special School District (PCSSD).

Wendy Potter wasn’t there, but the board member who mainly represents Maumelle has been under fire since she posted a meme on social media last month that read, “ICE ICE BABY,” amid the height of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Deportations.

Following criticism, she said, “Anyway, none of the crazy people are in my zone.” It was also a joke. Get over yourselves.

A PCSSD parent named Courtney Stone Jackson demanded that the board member step down.
“Wendy, you are unsuited for public service because of your egregious lack of judgment.

Jackson remarked, “Perhaps that is the reason you are not in public office tonight.”

Karyn Maynard, a board member, was also called to step down by critics. She asked how FERPA related to it in her remark on the thread.

Eli Keller, who serves as the school board representative for portions of Maumelle, said during the meeting that while he would not apologize for anyone, he would apologize that it had occurred.

“The children’s best interests should always come before religious views, political trash, and personal opinions. “One of your fellow members did not come to hear what you had to say,” Keller stated.

“PCSSD is aware of the controversy surrounding comments made by a board member in a Facebook group,” the district said in an online statement on January 25. However, the District does not have the administrative authority to control the speech of its school board members. Members of the school board are elected authorities who answer to the electorate.

During the meeting, Maynard remained silent.
