Following a car fire that closed and diverted traffic in Pulaski County on Labor Day morning, Interstate 40 lanes are now open
Pulaski County, Arkansas – A car fire on Interstate 40 near North Little Rock affected eastbound traffic flow, according to Arkansas highway officials.
The Arkansas Department of Transportation announced shortly after 8:30 on Labor Day that all eastbound lanes were closed due to a car fire that was occurring approximately 0.8 miles outside of North Little Rock. Officials are now trying to put out the fire.
iDrive cameras showed that the car was smoking close to mile marker 162 at Valentine Road.
Traffic started to move between Exit 161 and the burning 18-wheeler at about 10:30 a.m. All other traffic, according to officials, would be sent to Highway 70 at exit 161.
Monday afternoon, just after 1:00 p.m., all lanes of I-40 were open for traffic, with the exception of the right shoulder, which remained restricted while workers cleared more fire debris.
The cause of the fire and the number of casualties have not been disclosed by officials.
