Forrest City Fire Department warns that Interstate 40 is “quite slippery and exceedingly hazardous”
Forrest City, Arkansas – As the ice storm strikes Arkansas on Tuesday morning, fire officials in Forrest City are alerting motorists to the hazardous driving conditions on Interstate 40.
I-40 and Highway 70 are both ice and present highly hazardous driving conditions, according to the Forrest City Fire Department.
Two collisions were reported by Arkansas Department of Transportation officials. Just before 3 a.m., an accident was reported that was obstructing eastbound traffic. Just after 7 a.m., it was reported that another crash was obstructing westbound traffic.
Additionally, images from the fire department display semi-vehicles engaged in collisions.
According to fire officials, I-40’s westbound lanes have been blocked since 2:30 a.m. and likely will remain so for a few more hours or more. A significant traffic backup is visible on ARDOT’s traffic cameras.
Fire officials are requesting that people avoid using the roadways if they can.
