Gov. Sanders of Arkansas denies the stipend increase
Little Rock, Arkansas – Friday morning, the governor of Arkansas, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, vetoed a bill that would have raised the stipend for some state board members.
Sent to the governor near the conclusion of the legislative session was Senate Bill 509. It would have increased the Board of Corrections members’ daily allowance from $85 to $110.
The veto leaves the stipend at $85 despite it.
Sanders said she rejected the proposal because it was a waste of tax money.
“Senate Bill 509 carries with it a price tag – an increase which cannot be justified to Arkansas taxpayers. Therefore, I am vetoing this resolution,” the governor said.
The governor recently signed a number of laws into effect, including two bills to change jail sentencing criteria on Tuesday.
