Jefferson County’s ongoing budget impasse has an effect on staff and county operations
Pine Bluff, Arkansas – Following the Quorum Court’s failure to vote on a new budget tonight, Jefferson County’s financial standoff remains.
Throughout January, Pine Bluff’s court has been divided and unable to approve a budget.
It has resulted in bills going underpaid and county employees’ salaries being withheld.
One budget is supported by County Judge Gerald Robinson and a few other members.
Although the majority of the court’s members have offered alternatives, none of them have been accepted.
Pastor Larry Gragg says, “I would like to ask County Judge Robinson a question.”
“For one, why did you not have the foresight to have the budget completed before we exit 2024, for one instead of going into 2025 without even having a budget replaced.”
“It should have been done, I would say started work at least in October so that our budget would already be approved before January 1 ever hit.”
