Jocelyn Roberson named Olympics alternate, first Razorback gymnast on Team USA
Fayetteville, Arkansas – Jocelyn Roberson, an incoming freshman, made history on Sunday night when she was named as a traveling athlete for the Paris 2024 Olympic gymnastics squad. She is the first-ever gymnast from the University of Arkansas to be a member of Squad USA.
Roberson competed at the Olympic Trials in Minneapolis, Minnesota, for two fantastic days, finishing sixth overall with a total score of 110.975.
Roberson has never achieved an all-around score of more than 55.000 before to the Olympic trials. But following Friday’s competition, she received a score of 55.475. She hit a career-high with a score of 55.000 in the Sunday final, but it only lasted for 48 hours.
Out of the nine athletes that were selected for the team or as alternates, seven of them have either committed to or competed for NCAA schools.
Roberson is scheduled to travel to Paris as a traveling alternate, and he may be called upon to fill in for an athlete for Team USA until Sunday, July 28, when team qualification begins.
In addition to head coach Jordyn Wieber (2012), Roberson will be competing for Team USA at the Olympics either as an alternate or on the team alongside assistant coaches Chris Brooks (2012, 2016) and Kyla Ross (2012).
