Little Rock Zoo celebrates World Rhino Day
Little Rock, Arkansas – On Sunday, the Little Rock Zoo observed World Rhino Day and raised awareness to support the conservation of these critically endangered species.
The Little Rock Zoo is home to two rhinos: 3-year-old Kevin and 18-year-old black rhino Andazi.
The zoo is part of an international initiative aimed at breeding rhinos—which are sadly still poached for their horns—and other endangered animals.
In addition, habitat degradation and other threats to their survival have affected rhinos.
Caretaker of rhinoceroses at Little Rock Zoo Justin Marrin explained, “We are part of the black rhino Species Survival Plan, or SSP, which kind of acts like an online dating program for all rhinos in captivity.”
The International Rhino Foundation will receive a percentage of the earnings from the event on Sunday.
