Little Rock, Arkansas – The Little Rock Zoo is taking proactive steps to protect the health and welfare of its animal population as the extreme cold moves throughout Arkansas.

To safeguard people and animals, zoo employees are putting weather-related emergency strategies into action.

“Compared to our tropical species, some of our species, such as our servals and caracals, which are more savannah and African oriented, will need slightly lower temps. says Justin Dillon, a zookeeper.

“We are going to try and get their dens anywhere between about 60 to around 70 to 75 degrees depending on the species.”

Heat lamps and additional bedding are being added to the animals’ cages by zookeepers.

Additionally, they are making a concerted effort to keep the enclosures dry and guarantee that every animal has unobstructed access to food and water.
