Navy honors Parkview grad and Little Rock sailor
Little Rock, Arkansas – A Parkview graduate from the 2019 class was given a medal by the Navy while serving on an amphibious assault ship.
While stationed on the USS Iwo Jima, Petty Officer 3rd Class Shacora Cooper was honored on December 28 for demonstrating the fundamental value of progress. Cooper, an aviation electronics technician, volunteered to join the ship’s honor guard and received her shipboard certifications ahead of schedule, according to a spokeswoman.
Cooper was pleased with her accomplishments and eager for more challenges.
“This accomplishment makes me proud, and I know it makes my leadership and family proud,” Cooper said. “If I can accomplish this in such a short amount of time, then I can accomplish anything.”
Cooper entered the Navy the same year she graduated from Parkview Arts and Science Magnet High School.
The Amphibious Ready Group/Expeditionary Strike Group includes the USS Iwo Jima. In ship-to-shore landing craft and chopper operations, it aids the Marine Corps.
