Paragould High School hosts Color Run
Paragould, Arkansas – On Saturday, Paragould High School had its inaugural cross-country color run.
The purpose of the event was to support the cross-country team and raise money.
Monica Edwards, head coach of cross country, stated that being able to put this on means a lot.
“Oh it means a lot, we trying to build the program throughout the year, that’s the number one focus is just building it, making sure the kids have the opportunities that other schools have, other kids have, making sure it’s the best program we have,” Edwards said.
Team member Lucy McDowell stated that although they have previously missed out on opportunities, they will now have many more.
“It’s really big because we’ve missed out on opportunities because we haven’t had the money to get to do things, so this is really big and all the people that showed up, it means a lot,” McDowell said.
A five-kilometer race and a one-mile race were held at this event. However, a unique twist was added to both. There were color areas along the course where runners would get doused in paint at different points.
It was a lovely day for a run, according to Lillie Guth, Molly Guth, and Shelby Thornton, three of the competitors with whom we chatted.
“It’s a good opportunity to get outside and run on a Saturday when we have a day off, give back a little bit to the community around us. Right, it’s a beautiful day, and it’s super fun to be out here with your friends and everything. It’s a great place to meet new people, meet new friends,” they said.
Individuals of all ages turned out to support the cross-country running program and have fun on their runs. Throughout the marathon, there was plenty of water, supplies, and rewards for the finishers.
Everybody at Paragould High School had a terrific day.
“It really shows that our community loves us, and it means so so much to us,” McDowell said.
