Little Rock, Arkansas – In order to create the ideal habitat for animals, Arkansans who are putting down their Christmas trees in the coming days can donate their actual trees to Arkansas Game and Fish for recycling.

Trey Reid, AGFC Assistant Chief of Communications, stated, “Arkansas Game and Fish has been encouraging Arkansans to recycle those Christmas trees and use them as fish habitats for many years.” “I’m just urging people to give that tree a little more time to survive as a fish habitat in Arkansas waterways.”

According to Reid of Arkansas Game and Fish, since the initiative began, they have consistently received a sizable quantity of trees that are ideal for creating a fish sanctuary.

“What it does is create a place for algae to grow which attracts little fish, which attracts bigger fish, and eventually those predatory game fish like bass and crappie that we are after,” Reid explained.

As a result, Arkansas fishermen have the ideal sweet spot.

“We will sink those in different lakes, and we will put the GPS coordinates of where we create those fish habitats to our website at agfc.com so anglers can download them or view them, figure out where they are, and get out there to catch some fish around them,” Reid stated.

Like anything else, he added, this is a terrific method to maintain our lakes.

Reid remarked, “A lot of lakes in Arkansas are older,” “It is sometimes beneficial to introduce habitat because the majority of our lakes are man-made and, like people or all animals, they age or aren’t as good as they once were.”

A list of drop-off locations is available throughout the state, and trees can be dropped off at any time to be recycled.
