Sebastian County fifth-grader triumphs in Arkansas spelling bee
Little Rock, Arkansas – A new spelling bee champion from Sebastian County was crowned in Arkansas over the weekend.
Zeeshan Mahmud Anower, the event’s winner, and Rob Roedel from Electric Cooperatives of Arkansas, the event’s sponsor, spoke about the excitement of the frantic wordsmithing that took place on Saturday night.
Prior to the March State Spelling Bee, 84,350 kids from 422 schools in 55 counties throughout Arkansas took part in regional and local competitions.
At the word game, Carter Metcalf of Marion County placed third, followed by Matt Brodbent of Cross County in second.
Zeeshan will go on to represent Maryland at the Scripps National Spelling Bee, the biggest and oldest educational competition in the country, which will be held there.
