Support from the community for Stuff the Bus
Jonesboro, Arkansas – The annual Stuff the Bus event took place in Region 8 on Saturday, August 3. In Northeast Arkansas, school supplies were being loaded onto buses at Walmarts.
Giving back to students through the donation of school supplies and stockpiling the buses with them is possible with Stuff the Bus.
It was wonderful to see the community come together, according to Shalon Tate, Principle of Health, Wellness, and Environmental Studies.
Tate remarked, “It’s just wonderful to see the community come together and provide school supplies for the kids.”
Groups such as Swept Away also provided assistance. President Kevin Munoz of Swept Away claims that they are locals who wish to look out for the community.
Since we are all locals, Munoz remarked, “We absolutely love helping out non-profits and being able to give back to our community. We want to make sure our community is taken care of.”
Students from other local schools also offered their assistance. According to Nettleton High School freshman Olivia Exum, Stuff the Bus is a huge assistance to the students and their families.
“It is really important because it supports the families at our schools, which is especially important for some of us in the high school, junior high, or elementary grades,” Exum stated.
Many community members, some of whom were foreign nationals, came to donate money and school supplies. According to Jaxon Bradway, he received a South African banknote as a gift.
“I received a South African bill as a donation from someone who was from South Africa; he did not specify his place of origin, but it was really cool,” Bradway remarked.
Along with some animal pals, Jonesboro Animal Services sent three trucks’ worth of supplies.
Larry Rodgers, the director of animal services, says he likes to watch people smile.
“It’s just one of these things where we enjoy making people smile and giving back,” Rodgers remarked. “Relieving some of the people’s anxiety regarding school preparation, purchasing school supplies, and their financial situation.”
