The latest fraud poses as a judge from Saline County

Benton, Arkansas – According to the National Consumer Law Center, there are over 33 million scam calls made every day in the United States alone. Saline County is home to one of the most recent scams.

According to Saline County Judge Matt Brumley, they have limited the number down to 501-575-0578 because there have been enough reports.

If you notice the number, Brumley says you should not answer the phone.

“Saline County residents and citizens have alerted us to a scam after allegedly receiving a call from Saline County Judge Matt Brumley,” Brumley stated. “First of all, I didn’t call to inform them that they had failed to show up for my court and that they would face charges unless they made amends over the phone.”

Judge Brumley revealed another serious red flag: his office would never call and request payment or credit card information over the phone.

“As I hear civil cases, land cases, and taxation cases, I do preside over county court, but there is no such thing as failure to appear,” Brumley stated.

According to Brumley, these fraud allegations are neither unusual nor exceptional; they experienced a similar situation with con artists posing as the Sheriff’s Department last year, but every call is worrisome.

According to Brumley, it’s critical to warn individuals about the scam, particularly those who are at risk.

Brumley remarked, “These people who do this are pathetic, vile, and they pray on the weak.”

To report problems, call 800-484-8982, the Consumer Protection Division of the Attorney General’s Office in Arkansas.
