Little Rock, Arkansas – Following the superintendent’s resignation announcement last week, the Little Rock School District board’s special meeting on Monday was centered around the subject of transition.

After learning of Superintendent Jermall Wright’s departure, which was revealed in a letter to LRSD Board President Michael Mason last Thursday, many attendees of the meeting were still in disbelief.

Gregory Adams, a member of the LRSD board, expressed his astonishment and disappointment. “I don’t believe this was an issue. As a board, we hadn’t discussed anything with him.

“The members of this board are aware that they must make a crucial choice,” LaToya Morgan stated. “You understand that we must accept it and move on; we cannot argue about it further.”
One of the attendees at the special meeting, Morgan, expressed the opinion that the board ought to take charge and appoint a new leader to take the district forward in the wake of the departure.
In the best interests of the students and the community, many public comments, however, urged Wright and the board to reevaluate.

Angela Mull expressed her wish that Dr. Wright would change his mind and see how much the community and her parents love him.

Prior to a meeting behind closed doors to discuss Wright’s resignation, a strategy for future leadership, and the possibility of a board member being disciplined, public remarks were taken first.

The executive meeting went on for over an hour. Upon their return, the board declared that no decisions had been taken and adjourned the meeting.

Adams stated that both he and the board are going through a difficult moment.

Adams stated, “There are no changes from the way we started the meeting to the way things are now.”

LRSD Board President Michael Mason stated, “We are actively working to ensure that a new superintendent is named in a timely manner and are in the process of outlining a comprehensive transition plan.”

The agreement with Wright was supposed to expire at the end of June 2026.
