The lucky Arkansas Powerball winner that won $2 million on Wednesday decides to stay anonymous
Little Rock, Arkansas – The Powerball winning numbers on Wednesday were 02, 11, 22, 35, 60, and Powerball number 23. The drawing was lucky for one Arkansas lottery player, who managed to match the five winning numbers and win a prize worth $2 million.
The Arkansas player was among two other players nationwide who won $2 million in prizes, while 16 other lottery players won $1 million. However, no one matched all five numbers plus the Powerball number, meaning that the highest prize will be even higher on Saturday night.
The Arkansas Scholarship Lottery confirmed that the lucky Arkansas lottery winner claimed the prize on Friday at the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery Claim Center in Little Rock. The lucky winner chose to keep her name secret, but she told the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery how she got the winning ticket.
The Faulkner County resident said that the chosen numbers were relative to her grandchildren’s and her own birthdays and ages. She, however, didn’t immediately realize that she matched the five winning numbers because she was busy and didn’t check the numbers. Per her claims, a friend called her and asked if she had checked her Powerball lottery ticket after the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery announced that the winning ticket was sold in Wooster.
“I had been busy and forgotten to check,” the winner said. “So I went to the lottery website and laid the ticket next to the computer and couldn’t believe it when I saw that five of the numbers (2, 11, 22, 35, and 60) matched. The first thing I said was “thank you, Lord!”
“My husband was cutting soybeans so I was waiting on him to give him the good news before I told anyone else,” she said. “All I could do was pace the floor. However, I finally called my daughter because it was about an hour before he came in the house.”
The lucky winner purchased the winning ticket in the afternoon on Wednesday. While she is obviously happy about the huge winnings, she said that part of the money will be used to buy a new vehicle, while the rest will be invested in her and her husband’s retirement. She further stated that the winning ticket wouldn’t change her family’s lives, and she doesn’t plan to quit her work-from-home job.
The next Powerball drawing will take place on Saturday, and according to the Powerball website, the ultimate jackpot has now reached $1.6 billion, making it the largest national lottery jackpot in history. Ticket sales will be available until 8:59 p.m., while the drawing will take place an hour later, at 9:59 p.m.
No one has won the top Powerball prize since Aug. 3, making for 39 consecutive drawings without anyone matching all six numbers.
