The return of the miniature Christmas village exhibit is celebrated by the Carlisle community
Carlisle, Arkansas – The holiday season is bustling, and in Carlisle, a beloved Christmas tradition has made a comeback.
Debbie Madar, a resident of Carlisle, remarked, “This village was initiated years ago by a woman from our town.”
Each year, Addie Petrus would create an impressive Christmas village display, showcasing more than a hundred miniature buildings and small decorations for the community to enjoy.
“Everyone in the neighborhood, including both kids and adults, would pass by her house, captivated by the large window that drew them in,” Madar remarked.
The passing of Petrus brought an end to the creation of the charming little Christmas village display.
Nevertheless, the Carlisle community refused to allow such beauty to remain confined in boxes.
“After her passing, the property was put on the market, and a local woman purchased it with the intention of sharing it with the entire community. We then located a storefront to display it,” Madar explained.
Madar, along with Barbara Phillips and Sandy Kelly, recognized the urgency of revitalizing the village, as they were affectionately referred to as the ‘Christmas Ladies’ in Carlisle and understood the importance of maintaining its festive tradition.
Over the course of a week, dedicating numerous hours each day, the ‘Christmas Ladies’ carefully organized every element, featuring a football field, a train, and Santa alongside his reindeer.
“It evokes a flood of memories,” remarked Barbara Phillips. “I recall taking my kids when they were young to see it, as she displayed it prominently in her large living room window.”
“This village is truly remarkable, and she has done an excellent job maintaining it,” Phillips remarked. “We were delighted when the opportunity to showcase it was presented to us, and we readily accepted.”
