Little Rock, Arkansas – Thanksgiving often brings families together to express gratitude, yet Justin Buck, executive director of Wolfe Street, highlights that this is not always the experience for individuals dealing with or recovering from substance abuse.

He witnesses it every day at the foundation and wanted to ensure that no one had to face it on Thanksgiving.

“Being together is essential for recovery, and the holidays can often feel isolating for many individuals,” Buck stated.

Buck emphasized the importance of creating a welcoming environment, highlighting that the journey of recovery can be shared and doesn’t have to be faced alone.

In this instance, a significant number of individuals received his message, as they had already served 57 plates within just the initial few minutes.

“Last year, we had around 100 people attend, and I believe this year we’ll end up serving approximately 120 to 130 plates,” Buck stated.

The success of this initiative relies heavily on the foundation’s partners, such as Blue Cross Shield Arkansas, along with the dedicated volunteers who contribute their time and effort to make it a reality each year.

Carly Fleming, a volunteer, expressed, “Having family members who have faced similar situations as some of these individuals really motivates me to give back.”

With the conclusion of Thanksgiving, leaders at Wolfe Street encourage individuals in need of assistance to get in touch or come by for a visit.
