Trump completes his new cabinet by appointing a UAMS graduate as surgeon general
Little Rock, Arkansas – In a social media post on Friday evening, President-elect Donald Trump revealed that he has chosen Dr. Janette Nesheiwat, a Fox News contributor and UAMS alumnus, to be the surgeon general in his new cabinet.
Born in New York, Dr. Nesheiwat was one of five children raised by a nurse and widowed immigrant mother.
In 2000, Nesheiwat earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of South Florida.
She chose to go to medical school after graduating from the U.S. Army Reserve Officer Training Corps.
Prior to finishing the family medicine residency at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in 2009, Dr. Nesheiwat received his medical degree from the American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine.
According to Trump’s social media post, “Dr. Nesheiwat is a fierce advocate and strong communicator for preventive medicine and public health.” “She is committed to ensuring that Americans have access to affordable, quality healthcare, and believes in empowering individuals to take charge of their health to live longer, healthier lives.”
Dr. Nesheiwat started working in Northwest Arkansas after graduating from medical school.
She was featured on the Arkansas Business publication’s yearly “40 under 40” list in 2013, which honors 40 influential people in the Natural State who are under 40.
Later, when the COVID pandemic was at its worst, she relocated to New York City and started contributing regularly to the Fox News channel in March 2020.
In his capacity as surgeon general, Dr. Nesheiwat will lead the US Public Health Service Commissioned Corps (PHSCC) as its operational head, managing 6,000 PHSCC members.
The U.S. Senate must approve Dr. Nesheiwat’s appointment.
Vice Admiral Vivek Murthy, the present surgeon general, will be replaced by her.
