U.S. advances to the knockout round of the World Cup with a vital 1-0 win over Iran
The most prestigious tournament in the world is currently taking place, and the U.S. national team has managed to advance to the knockout round with a vital 1-0 win over Iran.
The United States was made to struggle in the latter parts of the game, but eventually did enough to earn a victory that would allow them to advance to the knockout round of the World Cup.
In the 38th minute of play, the attacking midfielder with Croatian origin, Christian Pulisic, finished a shot from close range to score the game’s only goal. Pulisic sustained an injury during the game and had to be substituted at halftime.
With the win against Iran, the U.S. secured second place in Group B with five points, two points behind England.
The U.S. will face the Netherlands on Saturday, November 3, in the Round of 16 at the 2022 FIFA World Cup. It is uncertain whether Pulisic will be able to recover from his injury and take part in the game on Saturday.
A win over the Netherlands means the U.S. will reach the quarterfinals for the first time since 2022.
