UAPB is undergoing exciting changes under new leadership
Pine Bluff, Arkansas – At the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, homecoming celebrations are well underway this week.
In addition to honoring the Renaissance of change taking place on campus, students and alumni are commemorating more than 150 years of academic success and cultural relevance.
Interim Chancellor Dr. Andrea Stewart said, “Come enjoy UAPB because there will be a change, and a great change coming soon.”
Alumni and the community come back to show their love and respect for the school they call “Dear Mother” during this unique period.
The Pride is currently led by a familiar figure, but the institution is under new leadership before the Mid-South Marching Musical Machine gets going.
After holding the offices of provost and vice chancellor, which she does not take lightly, Dr. Stewart is currently the acting chancellor.
“It’s just an amazing opportunity to take on this role and lead the institution,” she remarked. “To truly act as a role model for young women who resemble me, who are from first-generation families, and who can look at people like me and realize that they, too, can succeed and make a difference.”
As the second woman to hold this role, Dr. Stewart has so far been successful in advancing both new and ongoing projects.
The HVAC systems in the residence halls and other buildings on campus have been upgraded with millions of dollars, and students are getting even more facilities.
“The campus’s physical makeover is going to be really thrilling. Our upcoming student engagement center will be cutting-edge. For students, it would be a one-stop shop. A mental health and wellness [center] would be part of it. Our performing arts will be a part of it. Recreation for the pupils will be a part of it,” Dr. Stewart stated. “The School of Agriculture is looking forward to using the state-of-the-art labs in Larrison Hall, which we recently renovated and will serve as one of our agriculture research centers.”
Teaching pupils is still at the forefront, even though physical transformation is equally fascinating.
UAPB takes pride in its engineering and cyber security programs. Additionally, plans are underway to build a new allied health center that will provide students with instant certification and license.
Dr. Stewart stated, “We want to ensure that our students have an equal chance to succeed and return to our communities.”
You’re welcome to join “The Pride” if you’re traveling to Pine Bluff for homecoming celebrations or if you want to get a taste of history both past and future.
