United Way of North Central Arkansas to dissolve

Batesville, Arkansas – The United Way of North Central Arkansas will close its doors after 42 years of operation.

The group declared that it would officially close on Tuesday, December 31.

The decision follows “significant shifts in charitable giving and the challenges of maintaining a working volunteer board,” according to a news release issued on Saturday, December 14.

John Kunkel, President of United Way of North Central Arkansas, stated, “United Way of North Central Arkansas has proudly worked alongside our remarkable partner agencies for 42 years to uplift individuals and families, provide critical resources, and foster hope.” “Sadly, the changing philanthropic landscape of today and the increasing challenges of running a working board have rendered our continued operations unsustainable.”

According to officials, a lot of people would rather give directly to causes they support rather than through groups like United Way.

“Donations have decreased as a result of this change and the financial burden that many families are under in providing for their own basic needs,” the press release said. “At the same time, it has grown more difficult to find and keep dedicated board members for a volunteer-driven organization.”

To avoid interfering with their activities, partner agencies will get the remaining funding in the upcoming weeks.

“To our charitable partners, we have been inspired at every turn by your unwavering commitment. We urge companies and individuals to actively support your missions since your work has changed lives,” Kunkel stated. “All donations made directly to these organizations will be used to support the meaningful work you support.”

The group encouraged companies and people to keep giving to charities whose goals align with their own.

“The legacy of what we have created together will live on even though this chapter is coming to an end. Our town will never be the same because of your kindness and generosity,” Kunkel added.
