USACE to protect areas of the city below Beaver Lake
Rogers, Arkansas – Under Beaver Lake, a historic settlement is being preserved and removed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Parts of Monte Ne in Rogers will start to be taken down starting on February 20.
Before construction on the Oklahoma Tower can begin, the Oklahoma Row section of the former resort will be removed.
The corps claims that during the past five years, the area has turned into a health and safety issue. To decide what to do with the structures, it intends to consult with nearby museums.
According to the USACE, William H. “Coin” Harvey established the vacation community of Monte Ne around 1900. After Beaver Lake was built in the middle of the 1960s by damming the White River, leaving much of the resort and the original Monte Ne village beneath the lake, the land was acquired by USACE.
