Walmart demands the relocation of certain workers and fires hundreds of others
Bentonville, Arkansas – Walmart announced layoffs at its campus offices on Tuesday, impacting several hundred employees.
The majority of its remote employees and staff in its Dallas, Atlanta, and Toronto offices will have to move, according to the company, to its main operations in Bentonville, Arkansas; Hoboken, New Jersey; and the San Francisco Bay Area.
The Associated Press received word of the relocations through a Walmart staff memo, which stated that the objective is to “bring more of us together more often.” Additionally, being in person together “makes us better and helps us to collaborate, innovate, and move even faster,” according to the memo.
The message just mentioned that “some parts of our business have made changes” that will result in job losses as the explanation for the layoffs.
In response to inquiries about the rationale for the layoffs and the company’s efforts to combine additional office positions in California, New Jersey, and Arkansas, a Walmart representative did not immediately respond.
