Arkansas Humanities Council announces opening of traveling exhibit “Voices and Votes: Democracy in America” in Pine Bluff

Pine Bluff, Arkansas – The Arkansas Humanities Council is thrilled to collaborate with the Smithsonian Institution and the Museum on Main Street to introduce the traveling exhibit, “Voices and Votes: Democracy in America,” to Pine Bluff’s Arts and Science Center for Southeast Arkansas.

Starting from October 27th and running until December 8th, this exclusive exhibit will grace the halls of the Arts and Science Center. This limited-time exhibition is part of the Council’s broader objective, focusing on nurturing an understanding and appreciation of the humanities in Arkansas.

Jama Best, the Executive Director of the Arkansas Humanities Council, expressed her enthusiasm for the exhibit, saying, “This exhibit is reconnecting Arkansans of all ages to the American values that we hold dear.” At a time when the nation is at an essential crossroads, Jama believes it is vital for all Arkansans to interact with this exhibition. She emphasized the importance of understanding and cherishing democracy, which lies at the heart of American identity.

Diving deep into America’s democratic experiment, “Voices and Votes” portrays its evolution and significance across various eras. Visitors can look forward to an engaging experience comprising a collection of historic and contemporary photographs, political memorabilia, protest artifacts, and much more. To amplify the learning experience, the exhibit also features insightful educational videos, archives, and interactive multimedia components.

Originating from the esteemed Smithsonian National Museum of American History, the “Voices and Votes” exhibit has been adapted for its traveling tour. Having been displayed in locations like Little Rock, Blytheville, Batesville, and Siloam Springs, Pine Bluff marks the fifth Arkansan city to host this special exhibit. Its journey will continue in 2023, with its final stop being Magnolia.

For those keen to immerse themselves in this rich historical display, the Arts and Science Center for Southeast Arkansas welcomes guests from Tuesday to Friday between 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on Saturdays between 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The best part? Admission is entirely free!
