The incident took place just before 6:30 a.m. in the 1400 block of Cottonwood. Responding officers arrived on the scene following reports of a shooting. There, in front of a building, they discovered “a man with an apparent gunshot wound on the ground.” The victim was identified as 25-year-old Jmarcus Giles. Unfortunately, Giles was unresponsive and subsequently pronounced dead at the site by the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office.
Based on their investigations, the police identified the alleged shooter as 22-year-old Datreon Morris Sr. As the narrative unfolds, it appears that the confrontation leading to the shooting was ignited by a ‘domestic incident’. “Reports state that Giles intervened in a ‘domestic incident’ between a family member and Morris which then resulted in Morris shooting Giles.” After the shooting, Morris, accompanied by another individual, fled the scene. However, in a turn of events, he voluntarily surrendered to the police at approximately 3:30 p.m. on Monday.
Morris is now set to face legal repercussions. He will be processed and held at the W.C. Dub Brassell Detention Center, where he’ll be charged with capital murder.
